Manuscript Evaluation

A manuscript evaluation is a critical assessment of a novel. Unlike the edits I cover, this is less about the grammatical issues and focuses on the overall plot and readability of the work. I request that all manuscripts being sent for an evaluation is formatted with a size 12 font and is double spaced.

An evaluation contains:

  • A thorough 5-10 page report, using MS word

  • Comments on the following topics: Target Readership, Story, Character, Dialogue, Narrative, and Editorial Issues

  • Samples of a developmental edit to use as an example

  • Recommendations on how to pursue and possible future edits

This service is great for any stage. I recommend it for authors whose manuscripts are still raw, or less polished. For those who need a little direction in how to approach drafting and editing their own work before seeking an editing service.

Still not sure if this is for you? Why not check out a sample of one of my evaluations.

This was an evaluation carried out on the first fifty pages. Because I didn't see the whole manuscript, the 'story' section is far less developed than if I were to work on yours. The comments would also be higher level, dealing with overall plot points and development. I am always open to have a chat about where to focus before I start the evaluation.
