FAQ
What style guide do you use for line editing and proof reading?
If the author is traditionally published I am happy to use their publisher’s preferred style guide. I will standardise whatever the author’s grammatical preferences are, producing a style guide to match, but can edit according to the Oxford Style Guide, Chicago Manual of Style or house style guide if requested.
What kinds of work do you edit?
I edit long- and short-form fiction of all genres. I will edit non-fiction with the assumption that I am unlikely to pick up errors specific to fields in which I am not expert, although I have a decent general knowledge on most topics. I will also edit academic works on the topics of English Literature, History, Media Studies or Finance.
Do you accept works which include LGBTQ+ characters and/or themes?
Absolutely! I am very much in favour of promoting inclusion and diversity in fiction.
Will you edit erotica or works with explicit sex scenes?
I will absolutely accept your explicit scenes. As a former erotica author, I am very experienced with these kinds of scenes and have a good idea of how to make them work. I am also experienced with BDSM, S&M, and many other kinks. It will take a lot to shock me!
Will you re-write my work
I will not re-write work for you. If you are wanting a document to be put into different words, or have a piece of work so poorly written or translated that I would be writing the work from scratch, I will not accept the commission. This is for reasons of plagiarism, and because re-writing is a much larger job than I am willing to undertake. My job is to help make your writing really cool, not to replace your writing with my writing.
I certainly can. Before beginning on the commission, we will discuss your preferences so I fully understand your brief. This will include your preference for certain spellings and aspects of punctuation and grammar.
I see you are from the UK. Can you edit spelling and grammar to american standards?
That all sounds great! What's the next step?
Drop an email to info@vickybrewstereditor.com and we'll have a chat about your needs and get the ball rolling!
We ask for a 20% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. This will be based on the estimated quote for the work. The remaining 80% will be charged on delivery of the edit. Following the completion of your edit, I will send an invoice that is to be paid within 24 hours of receiving it.
Do I pay Upfront?
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept payment through Paypal, bank transfer and cheque. I do not take credit cards, sorry.
I know that, for many people, an editor is a big cost. For those who cannot afford to pay the full lump on completion, I am willing to arrange to cover the cost over two or three months. You can also request gift vouchers from me by emailing me directly — an edit can make an excellent birthday present!
